Ismael Guardado

Biografía

Ismael Guardado (1942) is a Mexican artist originally from Ojocaliente, Zacatecas. Guardado has been described as, "a plastic artist, a multidisciplinary sculptor well known in Mexico and internationally. He is probably one of the most important of his generation and of the history of Mexican art." The artistic career of Guardado has spanned over the past 55 years, where Guardado has created works through various mediums, with his preferred being oil painting. Through his own words on art, Guardado explained, "It's a compromise. The work must have a projection, it must have a language and a contribution. It is nothing more to decorate, it is to think. The art then is wrong with the question of painting. Paint, yes; but why and for what."
