Javier Marin

Biografía

Javier Marín’s expressive sculptures made from clay, lost-wax bronze, wood, and polyester resin center around an exploration of the shape of the human figure and themes relating to identity. His Batalla Circular VI (2020) exemplifies this as it portrays men on horseback poised in near mythological manners as the men attempt to tame the animals. Marín also incorporates less conventional materials in his work including seeds, dried meat, and tobacco, adding to the intricacy of his large sculptures. Marín’s striking works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; he also participated in the Venice Biennale in 2001 and 2003. Though he works primarily in sculpture, Marín has also embraced drawing, painting, and photography as central disciplines within his practice.
