José Reyes Meza (1924–2011) was a prominent Mexican painter, muralist, scenographer, and illustrator associated with the Mexican School of Painting and the legacy of twentieth-century muralism. Born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, he developed a multifaceted career that encompassed both easel painting and large-scale public murals commissioned for cultural institutions, universities, and government buildings in Mexico and abroad. A founding member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana, Reyes Meza participated in numerous national and international exhibitions throughout his career. His work is distinguished by a strong command of color, dynamic compositions, and a recurring focus on the human figure, often reflecting themes of Mexican cultural identity. In addition to painting, he contributed to theatrical scenography, illustration, and artistic design, leaving a lasting legacy within twentieth-century Mexican art.
